Intent to Apply for Grants
Funding Source: Tennessee Department of Education
Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority intends to submit grant applications to the Tennessee Department of Education for a Lottery for Education Afterschool (LEAPs) grant and for a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. Only one grant will be awarded. The two grant applications propose to provide extended learning during the school year and the summer. The two programs propose to serve the same schools, listed below.

Both grant programs target students who are at high risk of academic failure. Services are designed to improve reading/language arts and math skills; prevent absenteeism; develop positive classroom behavior and peer relationships; and increase family engagement.
Key services are: tutoring and instruction, homework assistance, physical fitness and nutrition, social and emotional learning strategies, and family engagement activities that are embedded in all program activities.
The applications will be submitted by April 7, 2017.
